Short description

kompetenzplus.de is an information portal for company decision makers, human resource managers, handicapped advocacy groups, personnel integration officers and other stakeholders. KompetenzPlus provides extensive information regarding the changes wrought by the revised Code of Social Law (Sozialgetsetzbuch) that took effect in mid 2004. The service comprises a comprehensive knowledge base, helpful online documentation, tools that promote workplace integration and suitable employment for the handicapped, and practical information regarding occupational training and retraining for the handicapped. www.kompetenzplus.de also provides support in the realm of integration management and safeguarding the health of handicapped workers.

Aims

www.kompetenzplus.de provides information on the new Code of Social Law regulations, as well as helpful, specific and updated information on all matters relating to employment for handicapped persons and dealing with handicapped workers who fall ill. The service’s main purpose is to help SMEs implement the revised Code of Social Law, and toward this end provides information regarding employers’ rights and obligations, traineeships and jobs for the handicapped, and sources of financial support.

www.kompetenzplus.de will be optimized as follows:

  • The portal’s content and structure will be thoroughly revised and two new sections will be added: “Occupational training” and “Integration management and safeguarding the health of handicapped workers.” These sections of the portal will provide examples of good practice as well as support in implementing the relevant measures.
  • The knowledge base will be updated, an extensive database of the addresses of relevant organizations will be added, and interfaces to REHADAT (Informationssystem zur beruflichen Rehabilitation [Occupational rehabilitation knowledge base]) will also be provided.
  • A database containing the names of facilitators in the field of occupational training for the mentally and physically handicapped will be established with a view to enabling businesses to carry out modern, needs oriented (inhouse) training and human development programs for the handicapped.
  • A new newsletter will keep human resource managers and handicapped advocacy groups abreast of the latest developments in the field.
  • The user interface will be revamped to make it more user friendly and ensure that it complies with the stringent criteria relating to barrier free access. Collaboration with representatives of the relevant target groups and with the handicapped advocacy group Aktionsbündnis für barrierefreie Informationstechnik (AbI; Alliance for barrier free information technology) will ensure that the portal is user friendly.
  • Online modules will provide information relating to methods for integrating workers with specific handicaps and ensuring their safety at the workplace.
