Exemplo - Erwerb und Transparenz nonformaler Kompetenzen im Unternehmen

Research area

Internationalization of vocational training

Short description

EXEMPLO contributes to the issue of cross-border transparency of competencies of experienced employees. A toolkit will be provided, containing a navigation-system for independently learning employees as well as instruments for enabling companies and employees to assess competencies acquired during non-formal and informal learning processes. The work in EXEMPLO will be based on the input of EU-member-states with deep experience in competence assessment (NVQ in the United Kingdom, Bilan de compétences in France, and particular Scandinavian approaches as well). The proximity of this multi-players-partnership to companies, social partners and government posts (labor administration) and their network structures is suitable to initiate social dialogue on the subject matter of non formally acquired competencies.

Aims

It is the objective of the EXEMPLO project to provide companies and employees throughout Europe with equally manageable methods for systematically using learning opportunities and promoting self-organised learning as well as for self-assessment and external assessment of the competencies acquired in these non-formal learning processes.

In detail, the project aims...

  • at integrating experienced employees in life long learning processes by enabling them to self-organised learning.
  • at providing companies with a methodology for transferring know-how internally or for retaining the (implicit) knowledge of older people.
  • at developing a simple set of tools for the assessment of non-formally acquired competencies, which can be used by companies throughout Europe as a basis for competence management and can help employees to define where they stand for independent further qualification.
  • at ensuring a sustained use of the developed tools in companies throughout Europe by including intermediaries and decision-makers of vocational training and by winning them for implementation in standard operation.
  • Therefore, particularly the social dialog on the subject of promoting self-organised learning and assessing those non-formally acquired competencies is to be supported.

    Exemplo Toolkit
  • With business relations increasingly internationalising and the transnational mobility of employees growing, the need for informative instruments enabling the documentation and recognition of competences on a Europe-wide basis and independently of the nature of the respective vocational training system has been growing, as well. As the number of people with skills acquired outside formal structures keeps rising, it has become essential to ensure the transparency of non-formal and informal learning processes. Against this background, under the Leonardo da Vinci programme a toolkit has been developed that aims at assisting SMEs and their staff members to document, strengthen and assess professional competences acquired in an informal way. The present publication gives an insight into the development process, describes the experience with the use of the exemplo toolkit in the countries involved and provides SMEs with numerous practical recommendations for both the determination and the promotion of the potentials of employees and applicants.
