“Targeted transition management” joint project

Research area

Continuing education

Short description

This joint project is embedded within the BMBF (Ministry of Education and Research) programme “Learning regions:  supporting networks”.  It aims to develop and disseminate comprehensive and integrative models for the management of career and educational transitions.

The research will be concentrated on four transitional phases in a lifecycle:

  • Kindergarten – school
  • School – employment
  • Re-entry into education and employment system
  • Ageing society

As a component of the joint project, Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung (f-bb) is addressing issues concerning target-group orientated transitional management in an ageing society.  The transition from work to retirement will be analysed in more detail.  This can be divided into three phases:

  • Last years of work (older people within companies)
  • Exit from employment
  • Retirement

Aims

Proven strategies from the “learning regions” (www.lernende-regionen.info) will be looked at which aim at supporting various target groups in dealing with the transitional phases listed.

The approaches found in this way will, in cooperation with the other participants, extensively analysed, and each of the success factors and transfer options will be worked out in detail.  On the basis of this, models for regional transition management and strategies for lifelong learning will be developed and disseminated.
The aim is to show in the model the forms which successful regional transition management for older people could take.  To this end,

  • individual process within the transitional phases will be considered;
  • institutional conditions required for the transition will be analysed; and
  • the social factors affecting this stage of life will be investigated.
