Work based vocational training - a challenge for Europe

Short description

A modern vocational training aims to develop occupational competence and is based on the qualification requirements of the labour market. Vocational training models that provide on-the-job learning ("work based learning"), are regarded as a guarantee for a low youth unemployment in Europe. The planning, implementation and quality assurance of work based vocational training is also associated with challenges.

At the conference, which is carried out by German Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (f-bb), approaches and examples of good practice for a competency-based training in Europe are presented. Trainers, trainees and vocational education experts from Germany, Austria, Spain, the UK and the Czech Republic contribute to shape the conference.

Opportunities, challenges and ways to support work based training are presented both in lectures and in parallel discussion panels. Well-known companies such as Brose and Audi will present their training concepts. In a marketplace of ideas and possibilities and a tour of the training area of one of the largest automotive supplier in the world, the participants also gain an insight into training opportunities in Germany and Europe.

The conference will take place at the Brose GmbH & Co. KG in Coburg. Brose is the world’s fifth-largest family-owned automotive supplier with around 23,000 employees at 58 locations in 23 countries worldwide. It develops and produces innovative mechatronics systems for vehicle doors and seats as well as electric motors.

The conference will take place within the project TrainCom (www.train-com.de). The project and the conference are funded with support from the European Commission.
