Vocational training and skill acquisition are too important for decisions regarding them to be made based on intuition alone. Those responsible in the public and private sectors require empirically-founded information. Vocational educational research develops the required foundations and this makes a key contribution to discovering areas in which innovation is required and to improvements in practice.
